Seminar on “Impact: Future with Innovation” Successfully Held at UET Lahore

Allah Walay Trust, in collaboration with Al Khwarizmi Institute of Computer Science (KICS), UET Lahore, organized a thought-provoking seminar on Impact: Future with Innovation – Pioneering Solutions for a Smarter Future at the Transportation Engineering Department.

The event was graced by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir (TI) as the chief guest, who shared his insights on the role of innovation in shaping a smarter and more sustainable future. Chairman Allah Walay Trust, Mr. Shahid Lone, and Director Scholarship Program, Prof. Dr. Khalid Manzoor Butt addressed students’ questions, encouraging discussion on innovation and future opportunities.

IIOE National Centre Pakistan at UET Lahore Expands Partnerships in Higher Education

In a significant move to strengthen higher education and digital learning, the International Institute of Online Education (IIOE) National Centre Pakistan at UET Lahore has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lahore College for Women University, University of Education, and Muhammad Ali Jinnah University. This partnership aims to foster collaboration in academia, faculty development, and technology-driven education.

The MoU signing ceremony was attended by Prof. Dr. Shahid Aziz (TI), Vice Chancellor UET Lahore, and Prof. Dr. Waqar Mahmood, Director KICS, alongside esteemed representatives from the partner universities. The agreement marks a significant milestone in promoting digital transformation in higher education, ensuring institutions have access to cutting-edge learning solutions, advanced research opportunities, and faculty training programs.

Through this collaboration, the partner universities will benefit from enhanced online education platforms, capacity-building initiatives, and joint academic programs. The initiative aligns with IIOE’s vision of equipping universities with digital tools and modern pedagogical techniques, enabling students and educators to excel in an ever-evolving technological landscape.

Chinese Delegation Visits KICS UET Lahore to Explore Investment Opportunities

A high-level Chinese delegation visited the Al-Khawarizmi Institute of Computer Science (KICS), University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore to explore potential investment and collaboration opportunities in research, technology, and innovation.

The delegation was warmly received by Prof. Dr. Waqar Mahmood, Director KICS, along with senior managers and faculty members. During the visit, the delegation was briefed on KICS’ ongoing research projects, state-of-the-art laboratories, and cutting-edge technological innovations in various fields, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cybersecurity, Renewable Energy, and Smart Technologies.

The Chinese representatives expressed keen interest in potential partnerships and investment prospects to strengthen bilateral cooperation in science and technology.

The visit concluded with a tour of KICS’ advanced research facilities, where the delegation witnessed live demonstrations of various technological projects. The Chinese representatives appreciated the institute’s contributions to research and development and expressed their willingness to foster long-term collaborations with KICS UET Lahore.

IEEE COMSOC Lahore Chapter Annual Meet-up 2024

The IEEE ComSoc Lahore Chapter Annual Meetup 2024 took place on December 26, 2024, at KICS-UET Lahore. Mr. Kashif Bashir, Chair of the IEEE ComSoc Lahore Chapter and Vice Chair of the IEEE Lahore Section, warmly welcomed the distinguished guests and provided a detailed report on the chapter’s activities for the year.

Mr. Bashir highlighted the chapter’s impressive growth, noting that its membership had increased by 44%, rising from 265 members in 2023 to 382 members in December 2024. He also mentioned that IEEE ComSoc Lahore Chapter technically sponsored three major international conferences this year: ICIC at UMT Lahore, ETECTE 2024 at UOL, and ICOSST 2024 at UET Lahore.


In addition to supporting conferences, IEEE ComSoc Lahore Chapter organized several significant events, including the 2nd Smart City Summit 2024, Artificial Intelligent Workshop in Information and Communication 2024, two IEEE ComSoc Tech Meetups, Information Technology Career Symposium 2024 and the Brainiac Student Competition. Mr. Bashir also took the opportunity to recognize the achievements of the chapter’s outstanding student members, Dr. Waqaqs Toor, Anees Ur Rehman, Rafay Khokhar, and Abdul Muheet Saqib, who received honorable mentions in this year’s Global ComSoc Student Competition. This year, the competition projects were evaluated by an international committee of 55 experts, further underscoring the high caliber of the students’ work and their contribution to the field.


Dr. Yasir Saleem, Vice Chair of the IEEE ComSoc Lahore Chapter, provided an overview of key events, including the Smartcity Summit 2024 and the IoT Workshop, highlighting their success and impact. He also discussed the IEEE ComSoc Induction Drive, aimed at attracting new members and expanding the chapter’s network of professionals and students in communication and technology.
Prof. Dr. Majid Hussain, Vice Chair of Technical Events, presented the activities held in the Faisalabad region. He detailed events such as the 2nd International Conference on Advanced STEAM (ICASE-2024), the Artificial Intelligence Workshop in Information and Communication 2024, and the Innovative Lyallpur 1.0 and Innovative Lyallpur 2.0 student competitions. He also highlighted the Induction Drive conducted in Faisalabad to attract new members to the IEEE ComSoc chapter.


In her video message, Dr. Ana Gracia Armada, Vice President of Global Activities for ComSoc, praised the IEEE ComSoc Lahore Chapter for technically sponsoring three international conferences, hosting technical events, and supporting ComSoc students. She specifically acknowledged the students’ achievements in the Global ComSoc Competition, highlighting their excellence and the chapter’s commitment to innovation and learning.
Ms. Alina Munir also shared with the audience that she received an Honorary Mention in the 2021 Global ComSoc Student Competition and is now a faculty member of the CS Department at UET Lahore. She expressed her gratitude to Kashif Bashir and Dr. Yasir Saleem for their guidance and support in her journey.


Later, Anees Ur Rehman shared with the audience how his team applied for the Global ComSoc Student Competition and earned an Honorary Mention. He explained the process behind their project submission and the dedication that led to their recognition by the international panel of experts. Anees also acknowledged the guidance provided by Mr. Kashif Bashir, Chair of IEEE ComSoc, which played a key role in their success and recognition.
Dr. Waqas Tariq Toor, the adviser of the project, also acknowledged Mr. Kashif Bashir’s guidance, emphasizing the significant role his support played in the success of the team’s project and their recognition in the Global ComSoc Student Competition.


Among other speakers at the event, Prof. Dr. Waqar Mahmood spoke about importance of IEEE activities among students, Dr. Tariq Rahim Soomro chair IEEE Karachi Section appreciated the team and shared the importance of such events, Dr. Amjad Iqbal dean SIT UCP appreciated the COMSOC Lahore Chapter team support last year in INMIC 2023 conference at UCP for which he mentioned that UCP has organized their own conference this year, Dr. Yasir Niaz Chief Technical Officer Punjab Safe City Authority said COMSOC is one of the most active chapter in Lahore Section, he also shared that more engineers required in their department, Hamza Ihtisham Chair IEEE Young Professional Lahore Section talk about professionalism and his affiliation with COMSOC chapter since 2016 during first COMSOC Lahore Chapter Summer School at Punjab University, Syed Rizwan Naqvi Chair Student Activities Lahore Section mentioned the student opportunities present in IEEE and encourage members to take lerage from them, and Dr. Jamshaid Iqbal Janjua acknowledged that IEEE ComSoc Lahore Chapter is the best chapter of the IEEE Lahore Section, praising its outstanding contributions and impact in the field of ICT.


At the end of the event, the Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. Sohail Aftab Quereshi, Vice Chairman of the Punjab, Pakistan Engineering Council, commended the efforts of Kashif Bashir, Dr. Yasir Saleem, and Dr. Majid Hussain, acknowledging their outstanding contributions to the success of the IEEE ComSoc Lahore Chapter and the services they provided to ComSoc student members. He also congratulated the winning students for their remarkable achievements.

Recognition certificates and cash prizes were also distributed to students Anees Ur Rehman, Rafay Khokhar, Abdul Muheet Saqib and their advisor Dr. Waqas Toor. Meeting with Executive Director of NAVTTC

On November 2, 2024, Mr. Kashif Bashir, Manager of Trainings at the Al Khawarizmi Institute of Computer Science, University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore, attended a pivotal meeting held at the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) office.The meeting was led by Muhammad Aamir Jan, Executive Director of NAVTTC, with the support of the Director General of NAVTTC Punjab Ms Asifa Maqbool and the head of different training institutes. This gathering brought together key stakeholders to discuss the important agenda of finalizing international certifications for NAVTTC students. Representing UET Lahore, Mr. Kashif Bashir contributed significantly to the discussions, sharing insights and aligning UET’s training strategies with NAVTTC’s vision for enhancing students’ global competencies. His participation underscored UET’s commitment to supporting NAVTTC’s mission to elevate vocational and technical training standards across Pakistan, ensuring that students meet international certification requirements.

Empowering Innovation: IEEE Day 2024 & ComSoc Chapter Launch at UET Narowal

On October 10, 2024, the IEEE UET Narowal Student Branch organized a lively and memorable IEEE Day celebration, paying tribute to the contributions of IEEE members and engineers who drive innovation and technological progress across the globe. This year’s IEEE Day held special significance for the university as it marked the official launch of the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) Chapter at UET Narowal, a pivotal milestone expanding the university’s connection with IEEE’s global technical community. This launch underscored the university’s commitment to fostering technological excellence and bridging students with IEEE’s vast network of professionals and resources.

The event was graced by prominent guests whose presence elevated the celebration. Among them were Dr. Kashif Bashir, Chair of the IEEE ComSoc Lahore Chapter from UET Lahore; Shahid Zulfiqar, Treasurer of the IEEE Lahore Section; and Muzammil Hassan, a distinguished member of both the UET Lahore faculty and IEEE Computer Society Lahore Chapter. Each of these guests brought a wealth of knowledge, unique insights, and inspiration for students interested in pursuing careers in technology. They shared thought-provoking perspectives on IEEE’s global impact and its role in accelerating advancements in communication, computing, and engineering.

The event commenced with an opening address by the IEEE UET Narowal Student Branch Chair, who warmly welcomed everyone and reflected on the significance of IEEE Day in promoting international collaboration and driving technological innovation. He emphasized IEEE’s mission to advance technology for humanity, aligning with UET Narowal’s own commitment to fostering a culture of curiosity, learning, and contribution among its students. The chair’s words set the stage for a series of impactful talks by the distinguished guests.

In TED-style sessions, each guest captivated the audience with their insights on emerging technological trends. Dr. Kashif Bashir, in his address, delved into the evolving field of communication technologies, discussing how advancements are reshaping industries, bridging gaps, and creating new opportunities. He introduced the vision and goals of the newly inaugurated ComSoc Chapter at UET Narowal, highlighting its role in equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in the ever-evolving communications landscape. Dr. Bashir also stressed the importance of volunteerism within IEEE, encouraging students to actively participate and contribute to the society’s initiatives.

Following Dr. Bashir, Shahid Zulfiqar, Treasurer of the IEEE Lahore Section, shared his insights on IEEE’s enduring commitment to technical excellence and the importance of continuous skill development. Recognizing the competitive nature of the technology industry, Mr. Zulfiqar urged students to invest time in building their skills, mastering resume writing, and preparing for professional careers. His talk included practical advice on professional development, with an emphasis on the importance of self-improvement and career readiness, which resonated deeply with the audience.

 

The final talk was delivered by Muzammil Hassan, who provided students with a broader perspective on career pathways in technology and introduced them to the field of DevOps, a domain that plays an increasingly critical role in modern tech-driven organizations. He discussed the interdisciplinary nature of DevOps, its applications, and its demand in the industry, inspiring students to explore this career path. Each talk was interactive, allowing students to engage in a dialogue with the speakers and ask questions that connected classroom learning with real-world applications.

A key highlight of the event was a Cake Cutting Ceremony celebrating both IEEE Day and the formal inauguration of the IEEE ComSoc Chapter at UET Narowal. This moment symbolized the spirit of unity, excitement, and shared purpose for IEEE’s mission and marked the beginning of future ComSoc initiatives and activities at UET Narowal. The dual celebration fostered a sense of camaraderie and collective purpose among attendees, strengthening their connection to IEEE’s global network.

Adding a nostalgic touch to the celebration, the event featured a photo montage that showcased memorable moments from past IEEE UET Narowal Student Branch events. These visuals highlighted the branch’s rich history, the dedication of its members, and the teamwork that drives its activities, reinforcing the importance of a strong community in achieving IEEE’s mission.

Information Technology Career Symposium 2024 at KICS UET Lahore

The Information Technology Career Symposium, hosted at KICS UET Lahore, successfully took place on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, in collaboration with the IEEE Computer Society Lahore Chapter and the IEEE Communication Society Lahore Chapter. The event kicked off with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by the Nat Sharif and National Anthem, setting the tone for a day filled with knowledge-sharing and networking opportunities.

 

Kashif Bashir, Manager Trainings of KICS UET Lahore, delivered the welcome note, expressing the institute’s commitment to driving innovation and training future IT leaders. He emphasized the importance of bridging the gap between academia, IEEE and the IT industry. Muzammil Hassan, Manager of the Software Systems Research Lab (SSRL) at KICS, gave an insightful overview of KICS’ history, mission, and vision. Abdul Wahab, CEC PASHA and Director of ABFA Technologies, took the stage to discuss current trends and career opportunities in IT. His session emphasized the role of industry-academia collaboration in enhancing employability through partnerships and training initiatives. Student should prepare themselves for industry. Prof. Dr. Usama Ijaz Bajwa, Group Head of Product and Engineering Manager at Soliton Technologies, spoke about the state of the IT industry and the role of academia. He highlighted 10 important areas in IT industry and skills required which are currently in high demand.

Sajjad Kirmani, CEO and Co-Founder of PhishRod, discussed cybersecurity trends and how young professionals can protect organizations against rising cyber threats. His insights provided an overview of the skills required to thrive in cybersecurity roles and the growing importance of digital risk management. Khawaja Farrukh Arshad, CEO of GNS Solutions Private Limited, shared his knowledge of emerging technologies and their applications in business solutions The event concluded with remarks from Prof. Dr. Waqar Mahmood, Director of KICS UET Lahore and a closing address by Ms. Asfa Maqbool, Director General NAVTTC Punjab, who spoke about the role of NAVTTC in providing training and skill development opportunities across the country. She also commended KICS and its partners for their contributions to vocational training and advancing IT education in Pakistan. The KICS Training at UET Lahore plays a pivotal role in advancing IT education and providing vocational training in areas like Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and Web Development. KICS collaborates with government agencies like NAVTTC and PSDF to offer free training to students and professionals, with a focus on increasing employability in the tech sector. In the end souvenirs were distributed among organizing team and guest.
