Empowering Innovation: IEEE Day 2024 & ComSoc Chapter Launch at UET Narowal
On October 10, 2024, the IEEE UET Narowal Student Branch organized a lively and memorable IEEE Day celebration, paying tribute to the contributions of IEEE members and engineers who drive innovation and technological progress across the globe. This year’s IEEE Day held special significance for the university as it marked the official launch of the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) Chapter at UET Narowal, a pivotal milestone expanding the university’s connection with IEEE’s global technical community. This launch underscored the university’s commitment to fostering technological excellence and bridging students with IEEE’s vast network of professionals and resources.
The event was graced by prominent guests whose presence elevated the celebration. Among them were Dr. Kashif Bashir, Chair of the IEEE ComSoc Lahore Chapter from UET Lahore; Shahid Zulfiqar, Treasurer of the IEEE Lahore Section; and Muzammil Hassan, a distinguished member of both the UET Lahore faculty and IEEE Computer Society Lahore Chapter. Each of these guests brought a wealth of knowledge, unique insights, and inspiration for students interested in pursuing careers in technology. They shared thought-provoking perspectives on IEEE’s global impact and its role in accelerating advancements in communication, computing, and engineering.
The event commenced with an opening address by the IEEE UET Narowal Student Branch Chair, who warmly welcomed everyone and reflected on the significance of IEEE Day in promoting international collaboration and driving technological innovation. He emphasized IEEE’s mission to advance technology for humanity, aligning with UET Narowal’s own commitment to fostering a culture of curiosity, learning, and contribution among its students. The chair’s words set the stage for a series of impactful talks by the distinguished guests.
In TED-style sessions, each guest captivated the audience with their insights on emerging technological trends. Dr. Kashif Bashir, in his address, delved into the evolving field of communication technologies, discussing how advancements are reshaping industries, bridging gaps, and creating new opportunities. He introduced the vision and goals of the newly inaugurated ComSoc Chapter at UET Narowal, highlighting its role in equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in the ever-evolving communications landscape. Dr. Bashir also stressed the importance of volunteerism within IEEE, encouraging students to actively participate and contribute to the society’s initiatives.
Following Dr. Bashir, Shahid Zulfiqar, Treasurer of the IEEE Lahore Section, shared his insights on IEEE’s enduring commitment to technical excellence and the importance of continuous skill development. Recognizing the competitive nature of the technology industry, Mr. Zulfiqar urged students to invest time in building their skills, mastering resume writing, and preparing for professional careers. His talk included practical advice on professional development, with an emphasis on the importance of self-improvement and career readiness, which resonated deeply with the audience.

The final talk was delivered by Muzammil Hassan, who provided students with a broader perspective on career pathways in technology and introduced them to the field of DevOps, a domain that plays an increasingly critical role in modern tech-driven organizations. He discussed the interdisciplinary nature of DevOps, its applications, and its demand in the industry, inspiring students to explore this career path. Each talk was interactive, allowing students to engage in a dialogue with the speakers and ask questions that connected classroom learning with real-world applications.
A key highlight of the event was a Cake Cutting Ceremony celebrating both IEEE Day and the formal inauguration of the IEEE ComSoc Chapter at UET Narowal. This moment symbolized the spirit of unity, excitement, and shared purpose for IEEE’s mission and marked the beginning of future ComSoc initiatives and activities at UET Narowal. The dual celebration fostered a sense of camaraderie and collective purpose among attendees, strengthening their connection to IEEE’s global network.
Adding a nostalgic touch to the celebration, the event featured a photo montage that showcased memorable moments from past IEEE UET Narowal Student Branch events. These visuals highlighted the branch’s rich history, the dedication of its members, and the teamwork that drives its activities, reinforcing the importance of a strong community in achieving IEEE’s mission.
As the event drew to a close, attendees participated in a networking session that provided students with a unique opportunity to interact directly with the esteemed guests. This informal session encouraged conversations about the emerging opportunities within IEEE and the exciting projects in store under the new ComSoc chapter. Students engaged in meaningful discussions, gaining valuable insights into IEEE’s resources, career-building opportunities, and avenues for contributing to technological innovation.
With the successful inauguration of the ComSoc Chapter and the impactful IEEE Day celebration, the IEEE UET Narowal Student Branch is poised to create more opportunities that will empower students to actively contribute to the fields of communication technology and engineering.
