Virginia Commonwealth University’s Professor Delivers a Presentation on Research Topics in Cybersecurity at KICS UET

7th January, 2020 – A seminar on ‘Research Topics in Cybersecurity’ was arranged by KICS UET on 7th January 2020 at seminar hall where researchers and faculty members appeared to attend it. Dr. Irfan Ahmed, who is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in the United States, presented the presentation. The talk’s main area was on the research problems in cybersecurity with a particular focus on digital forensics, industrial control systems (ICS) and system virtualization. The research problems include memory forensics, virtual machine introspection, and control logic injection attacks and defenses. This talk was targeted to both undergraduate and graduate students who carried interests in research projects.

In order to help the research students and understand the real-world cyberattacks and ultimately raise the interests of the students in cybersecurity, the FU rootkit and a man-in-the-middle attack was demonstrated.

Dr. Irfan directs the security and forensics engineering (SAFE) lab at Virginia Commonwealth University. His research work focuses on system security and forensics of non-traditional computing environments including industrial control systems, and system virtualization. Earlier, Dr. Irfan was a Canizaro-Livingston Endowed Assistant Professor in Cybersecurity at the University of New Orleans (UNO) and an Associate Director of Greater New Orleans Center for Information Assurance (GNOCIA).

He is the recipient of several awards including an Outstanding Research Award from the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS), two Best Papers and one Outstanding Poster Awards, the Early Career Research Prize from the University of New Orleans, and ORAU Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award.
