UET Lahore and Weidong China Jointly Launch Smart Classroom at UET Lahore

University of Engineering and Technology Lahore has launched a unique smart classroom that is set to impress and garb the attention of all and sundry in particular the students who want to learn the skills. It has been named ‘Weidong Smart Classroom’. Supported by Southern University of Science and Technology and China’s enterprises including Weidong Group, International Center for Higher Education Group under the auspices of UNESCO (ICHEI) this smart classroom is set to massification of higher education by improving the education quality and promoting the equity in education through collaboration with UET Lahore.

By the grace of Allah Almighty and because of the massive efforts by the Director KICS UET Prof. Dr. Waqar Mahmood this landmark happened. Dr. Waqar’s mammoth efforts in the form of continuous communication and correspondence with the director of UNSECO ICHEI Dr. Li Ming brought up this lucrative result in the form of smart classroom.

The main features this smart facility carries include usage of interactive screen, wireless physical presenter, LIVE broadcasting, recording of lectures and trainings and course management software (WeClass). With the help of this facility, different campuses of the university will be interconnected and even inter-university connectivity will happen. Sharing of videos and lectures too can be done through this facility of smart classroom.

The objective of this project is to enable the administrators, teachers, students and technicians to introduce change in the field of ICT and ICT application for classroom activity in order to provide solid foundation for ICT driven higher education.

Background and Implementation of the Project:

This project includes following six countries which universities Weidong smart classroom projects have been launched:

  1. University of Colombo (Sri Lanka)
  2. Royal University of Phnom Penh (Cambodia)
  3. University of Engineering and Technology Lahore (Pakistan)
  4. Ain Shams University Cairor (Egypt)
  5. Addis AbabaUniversity (Ethiopia)
  6. University of Djibouti (Djibouti)

UET Lahore is Pakistan’s first university where this project has been launched. Weidong has plans to launch the same smart classrooms in various other universities of Pakistan in future as well.

Functions of Smart Classrooms:

The smart classroom has been initiated at university’s main auditorium where it will be laced with below functions:

  • Sound proof and echo free classroom environment for lecture recording
  • Smart interactive board, digital physical presenter and VDIs solutions for the individual student guidance, performance, monitoring and work recording.
  • LIVE and individual broadcasting of lectures to students in university campuses affiliated institutes and collaborating universities
  • An online platform for online student/teacher interaction for effective learning

Planned Courses:

Upto December 2019, UET Lahore has planned a number of courses which are as under:

  1. Networking certification Courses
  2. Master Course of Computer Science Department 
  3. Free and Paid Workshops on different topics.

Opening Ceremony:

Opening Ceremony of Smart Classroom will take place in December 2019 during ICOSST 2019 conference in UET Lahore.
