KICS UET’s Officials Make Pakistan Proud in China

LAHORE (15th January 2018) – The final of Huawei ICT Skill Competition 2017 was conducted in Huawei Headquarters in Shenzen, China where 39 students from 10 different countries participated and these students were grouped into 13. 6 students, who won the national final in Pakistan, represented the country at the final and they were grouped into 2. Among 7000 students from 22 universities and colleges, these 6 students were chosen who bagged the national level contest of Huawei. 3 out of 6 were from University of Engineering and Technology Lahore, whereas the rest of three were from NUST, Lahore Garrison University and Virtual University. The six students included Ayyaz Ahmad (UET Lahore), Muhammad Zubair (UET Lahore), Fatima Rashid Butt (UET Lahore), Malik Noor Muhammad (NUST), Shariq Malik (LGU) and Shamim Iqbal (Virtual University).

Thirteen teams (groups) fought for the final and Pakistani teams performed brilliantly and secured second prize. Lebanon team won the first prize whereas the third prize was secured jointly by Bahrain, Jordan and Oman. Excellent Tutor and Excellent Academy Awards were also distributed among six tutors and academic institutions from Middle East region. UET Lahore’s tutor Fahmeed Akram was awarded with the first position.  These UETIANs (Ayyaz, Muhammad Zubair and Fahmeed Akram) also work for KICS (Al-Khawarzmi Institute of Computer Science), UET Lahore.

Senior representatives from participating countries’ embassies and consulates attended the award ceremony, in addition to other high-ranking government officials which included Mr. Ding Lianpu, Director of the Center for China-Foreign People-to-People Exchanges in China’s Ministry of Education, Professor Zhao Jianhua, Deputy Director for the International Center for Higher Education Innovation at UNESCO, Ms. Chen Lifang, Corporate Senior Vice President of Huawei Technologies, and Mr. Simon Lacey, Vice President of Huawei Global Government Affairs Department, and Mr. Charles Yang, President of Huawei Middle East.
