Raja Yasir Humayun Sarfaraz Inaugurates IEEE 12th International Conference on Open Source System and Technologies in UET Lahore

“Modern technology is considered as backbone for socio- economic development of any country. Government is taking measures to promote technical and high education through many effective projects” It was expressed by Minister for Higher Education Raja Yasir Humayun Sarfaraz while speaking to the participants at inaugural ceremony of IEEE 12th International Conference on Open Source System and Technologies ICOSST’18 arranged by Al-Khawarizmi Institute of Computer Science (KICS), University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore on 19th December, 2018. Later, he visited the exhibition of researchers of Al-Khawarizmi regarding inventions in the field of science and technology. 

He also said, “the students and researchers of UET have equipped themselves with modern technology and Pakistani researchers can compete with any other country’s ersearchers, and their invention are appreciable.” Addressing the participants, he said, “by providing facilities in the field of research, we can make progress in science and technology and this development will also play a key role economic development of country in near future.” While addressing the participants former vice chancellor of UET Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid said “Research based planning is always efficient and productive for long term strategies and provides vivid way of progress. In this regard, varsities may play role to address the vision of development adequately”. In this international conference, Director KICS Prof. Dr. Waqar Mehmood briefed the audience about objectives, schedule and importance of this conference. He also explored that “the idea of encouraging for open source is to push the individuals to mainstream of progress to boost up the micro and macroeconomic condition of the country and get benefits with exchange of knowledge and skills.” This conference is also helping organizations both governmental and non-governmental to keep a control on the cost of development and deployment. 

Keeping in view, more than 150 national and international research papers received from around the world and experts from 40 countries reviewed these research papers to be presented in conference. The conference will have number of technical sessions headed by IT industry leaders and international delegates and a round table discussion session on Opportunities and cooperation in Block Chain & Cyber Security”. Later a panel discussion on “Unleashing the potential of blockchain in economy” having panelists from round the globe was also organized. Dean faculty of Civil Engineering Prof. Dr. Abdul Sattar Shakir, CEO Ignite National Technology fund Mr. Yusuf Hussain, co-Founder of Socioon and a large number of students attended the conference. Mr. Yusuf Hussain was also distinguished guest at the inauguration ceremony. He appreciated the high technology research and development work conducted at KICS. He also praised the importance and meed of open source and blockchain highlighted in the conference. During this conference UET and Team Socioon launched Pakistan’s first ever social media and business network. The inaugural session was concluded on the presentation of shields to guests.
