Foreign Delegation from Japan Attends Virtual Reality Workshop in UET Lahore

LAHORE (25th January 2018) – A one of its kind workshop on virtual reality and industry took place in University of Engineering and Technology Lahore on 24th January 2018. It was arranged by Al-Khawarzmi Institute of Computer Science (KICS) UET. A Japanese delegation from STYLY Japan consisting of the high officials of the company – Nausharwan Mir (Head of Global Affairs/Chief Alliance Officer, STYLY), Michael Waite (Global Manager, STYLY), Sajid Khan (Global Manager, STYLY) and Sayaka Sagawara (Assistant Global Manager, STYLY) attended it and delivered presentations on the subject matter.

Director KICS UET Lahore, Prof. Dr. Waqar Mahmood inaugurated the event and welcomed the guests. A large number of students attended this mega workshop, which subject appealed to everyone.

Dr. Waqar, in his address to the attendees, briefed about the virtual reality and told the students how important it was for them and for the upcoming days. He also revealed the career prospects, which the students could relish with this education of VR. He emphasized on the importance of technology.

Nausharwan Mir (Head of Global Affairs, STYLY) decompressed the big opportunities one could have by using virtual reality, which was fast increasing and developing in the world. “Biggies like Google, Facebook, Amazon and YouTube are using this technology, thus one can expect how big career movements can be in ahead if succeeded in this technology” – this is what was revealed over there. Mir also told the students to contact him directly for their projects on the subject. He offered the students paid internships in Japan and Pakistan. Besides he offered the jobs at STYLY Japan to the most intelligent students whose projects or creations the company passed.

Michael Waite, who is the Global Manager of STYLY), expressed about the number of users of virtual reality and told how increasingly it was soaring high in the entire world. He mentioned Pakistan and India being the largest populated countries could be the biggest users of VR in near future. He also unzipped the difference between Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR). Waite gave the examples of Instagram and Snapchat as to how they were using this technology by changing the faces of the people.

Global Manager STYLY, Sajid Khan, delivered the revenue figures of VR and its growth. It started working in 2016, when its revenue was 1.8 billion dollars and the estimated figure in 2020 could shoot to 37.7 billion dollars. He also depicted its use in daily life in entertainment (games, movies and live events). Khan then described how it could be used in virtual travel, education, employees training, healthcare, shopping, business meetings, socializing with friends and so on.

A contest was also revealed at the workshop in which students could participate. It was told that the winners of the students would be awarded with a paid trip to Japan and a job at STYLY Japan. The winning amount of the contest is upto one crore rupees, which will be distributed among the lucky winners.

Dr. Waqar, at the end of the event, distributed the shields among the guests.
