Publication Theme:  Education reconstruction in the post-epidemic era

“CLOUD” is a quarterly publication established by the UNESCO Higher Education Innovation Center (Shenzhen, China). The name of the publication implies global cloud communication and interoperability driven by information and communication technology (ICT). “Cloud World” aims to build a communication platform for connecting global higher education workers by disseminating knowledge, project dynamics, data and best practices related to the digital transformation of global higher education.

UET as a global partner of UNESCO-ICHEI (International Center for Higher Education Innovation under the auspices of UNESCO) contributed in CLOUD publication that was issued on  08-06-2021. UET as a contributor shared its experience and practice during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

In spirit of promoting the idea of knowledge sharing and capacity building through cooperative projects, University of The Gambia (UTG), IIOE Partner University, backed their IT leads to visit University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore. Mr. Abdou Darboe – Director IT and Mr. Pasara Drammeh –Manager IT, University of The Gambia (UTG) started their 2 months-long visit on April, 5th. During their stay at UET, they were accompanied by the dedicated research team from Al-Khwarizmi institute of computer Science (KICS). One of the prominent objectives of their visit was to get themselves hands on to various IT based trainings by KICS that include Cisco Certified Network Associate (R&S), Huawei Certified ICT Associate (R&S), Cisco Certified Network Professional (R&S), Huawei Certified ICT Professional (R&S), Huawei Certified ICT Associate (AI), Huawei Certified ICT Associate (Cloud), ITIL® 4 Foundation, Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate and Project Management Professional (PMP). They got an opportunity to interact with research staff working at various Labs in KICS including ESSL, IOT, AIRL, Data Center, HPCNL, CLE, ICRL, CVML, BRL, CVML and DSL. 

A week-long enterprise training was conducted by HUTIC Lab KICS UET Lahore from 24th to 28th May 2021. Training includes the fast track of Huawei Certified ICT Professional (HCIP) in Routing and Switching plus Firewall and wlan configuration. Mr. Ubaidullah – Assistant Manager IT, Basharat Hussain – Assistant Manager IT and Muhammad Ashraf – Additional Deputy Manger IT from National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) attended this training. Certificates were presented to participants of training after completion.

Abstract: The challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic have forced the global higher education sector to consider new approaches to ensure education continuity and sustainable development. Various technological innovations in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) have proven valuable in aiding HEIs’ digital transformation during the pandemic. Within this context, Artificial Intelligence is gaining great importance in education while concerns raise about its far-reaching implications and ethical issues.

IIOE will deliver a new Webinar named ‘Let’s Talk AI in Education’ on Friday 2nd April 2021 (GMT+8). There will be knowledge-sharing presentations conducted by leading scholars, senior consultants, and UNESCO Programme Officers to discuss the development of AI in education and ethical considerations to be taken in various contexts.
