IIOE Online Video Competition – Registration Deadline is 30th January (4:00 PM)

Thank you to all the participants of the IIOE courseware competition and congratulations to all the winners.

On 12th January, the first IIOE Online Courseware Competition ended successfully. More than 210 teachers from 45 countries around the world have participated in this competition and submitted courses with quality and innovation.  

Congratulations to UET Lahore & Pakistan that 3 out of 6 winners are from Pakistan and 2 of them are from UET Lahore. In addition, all four special winners from Pakistan & UET was the most participative HEI out of all the IIOE partners and participating HEIs.

Dr. Waqar Mahmood attends UNESCO-ICHEI International Advisory Committee Meeting 2021 as an Expert of Digital Transformation in Higher Education

International Advisory Committee Meeting of UNESCO-ICHEI (International Centre for Higher Education Innovation under the auspices of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) was held at the Southern University of Science and Technology. The meeting was chaired by Professor Freddy Boey, Deputy President for Innovation & Enterprise of the National University of Singapore, and President, UNESCO-ICHEI. The conference focused on topics related to the digital transformation of higher education and systematically discussed theoretical concepts, key areas, and practical points to support global stakeholders’ collaborative efforts in this field.

Director Al-Khawarizmi Institute of Computer Science (KICS), UET Lahore, Prof. Dr. Waqar Mahmood, Director ICHEI, Prof. LI Ming, Mr. HAN Wei, Executive Deputy Director of ICHEI, and Mr. WANG Guobin, Deputy Director of ICHEI, as well as experts from the relative field, and representatives from ICHEI cooperation information-based enterprises attended the meeting.

Director Al-Khawarizmi Institute of Computer Science (KICS) Giving His Opinion

Mr. CHENG Jiangang, Director of Institute of Higher Education Digital Transformation of ICHEI, Mr. HAN Xibin, Consultant of Education Technology of ICHEI, Chief Director, Professor of Institute of Education (IOE) Tsinghua University and other colleagues from ICHEI, presented special reports during the meeting.

The expert members discussed the topics “Preliminary Research on Higher Education Digital Transformation” and “Research & Practice of Systematically Promoting Reforms of Digital Teaching & Learning” and made valuable suggestions on the future development planning and implementation of ICHEI. 

“These subjects provide an in-depth consideration of all aspects of education, and the ICHEI-Tsinghua joint research project also creates an opportunity for all parties to work together to explore education’s future growth paths,” says Director KICS, Prof. Dr. Waqar Mahmood. He also suggested combining the existing work of the ICHEI-Tsinghua Joint Research Project with the ICHEI, such as using the national center as a foundation for practice and implementation, incorporating educational transformation and change research into policy development.

At the end of the meeting, Pro. Li Ming, Director ICHEI, expressed his gratitude to the experts for their input. He said that all the experts expressed constructive opinions, ICHEI had already started the work of selecting experimental universities in the Asia Pacific and Africa for the landing of the research combining with flagship projects and national centers and developing an evaluation mechanism to systematically assess the effectiveness of research results in terms of theoretical research and practical testing. The experts’ opinions will be completely integrated into the future development of ICHEI, he added.

Student intervarsity competition BRAINIAC’21 goes on campus amid ease in COVID restrictions

Under the banner of the International Conference on Open-Source Systems & Technologies (ICOSST) 2021, a student competition “BRAINIAC’21” was organized by Al-Khawarizmi Institute of Computer Science (KICS), UET Lahore with co-sponsorship of IEEE ComSoc Lahore Chapter on 14-16 December 2021. This was the first on-campus event after COVID19 where students from various universities of the country participated zealously.

BRAINIAC is a national technical competition that provides opportunities for students to enhance and showcase their technical skills through a country-wide competition and win attractive cash prizes. The 3-day competition comprises different modules including project video, full-stack functional website, code champ, circuit genie, math gauge, and league of your own (gaming competition) in which students unleashed their technical skills and cherished a healthy competitive environment with the cash prizes of Rs. 1 Lac. 

Around 180 participants from the universities including the University of Lahore, Information Technology University, FAST National University, Punjab University College of Information & Technology, and other campuses of the University of Engineering & Technology Lahore participated in the competition. The judges’ panel consisted of Dr. Ubaid Ullah, Dr. Umar Tabraiz Shami, Mr. Salman Fakhar, Mr. Umer Shahid, Mr. Muzammil Hassan, Mr. Rehan Naeem from the faculty of the University of Engineering & Technology Lahore. 

On the last day of the module ‘league of your own, there was an elimination-based surprise game competition for the finalists that was revealed a day before. In this module the competition of a very famous console game, Tekken-7 was conducted.

The winners of all the modules were announced at the closing ceremony of the 15th International Conference on Open-Source Systems & Technologies (ICOSST) 2021. “The technical competitions foster the mindset that allows creativity to grow”, said Vice Chancellor UET Lahore, Prof. Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar while speaking at the closing ceremony. Worthy Vice-Chancellor UET along with Director Al-Khawarizmi Institute of Computer Science (KICS), Prof. Dr. Waqar Mahmood distributed the cash prizes of Rs. 100,000 amongst the winners.

The event came to an end with a group photo of participants and the organizers of BRAINIAC’21 with distinguished guests.
