A Seminar on Semi-Conductor Industry – ‘Train to Recruit Pakistani Talents for China and South Korea’ Organized in UET Lahore

4th September, 2019 – ‘Train to Recruit’ – this is undoubtedly an enticing phrase for the ones who are on way to become professionals and want to earn good career prospects. This is going to happen now, as a seminar on the same was conducted at UET Lahore on 4th September 2019 in Chemical Seminar Hall. Al-Khawarazmi Institute of Computer Science (KICS) and University of Engineering and Technology join hands to organize this career-oriented seminar that is set to change many students lives.

Guest of honor was Chairman Higher Education Department Punjab Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmed Khalid who is also an EX-Vice Chancellor of UET Lahore. Other guests included Ms. Sabahat (CEO Lampro Mellen), Vice Chancellor UET Lahore Prof. Dr. Mansoor Sarwar, Vice Chancellor UET Taxila, Naveed Sherwani (CEO SiFive, California) and others. Prof. Dr. Waqar Mahmood, Director KICS UET, welcomed the guests.

The seminar titled ‘Semi-Conductor Industry in Pakistan – RISC_V Based Soc Design & Employment Opportunity’ was attended by horde of students, faculty and staff. It claims to be the 500 billion dollar industry and urges the engineers of UET and other universities of Pakistan to be an enthusiastic part of it.

Talking to the attendees, Prof. Dr. Sarwar, VC UET Lahore, said that UET students should get this opportunity in learning chip design, testing and verification. He also said that this platform was going to be massive and a problem-solving for complex engineering matters. It would also be a game changer in Pakistani industry. He further urged the students to join this platform. Dr. Sarwar announced that 200 students would be chosen for selection in Lampro Mellen program to train them for the jobs in China and South Korea and 50 out of 200 would be conferred with free syllabus and free training and after the final test they would be selected for jobs.

Ms. Sabahat, in her address, said that semi-conductor industry should be pushed up in Pakistan and for that matter she and her team was there to give training to the students for jobs. She told the students that you happened to be the architect of success. According to her everyone was laced with talents and only they need to extract those talents to be successful in life. Ms. Sabahat announced that her company would train Pakistani students and after passing their tests, these students would be granted with jobs in China and South Korea with monthly salary of more than 2000 USD. These successful students will not have to pay even a penny as all the expenditures would be borne by the company.

These trainings initially will be given to a batch of 200 and then the batches will keep going. It will be the trainings with guaranteed jobs.

Naveed Sherwani joined on Skype from California. He briefed the audience all about the semi-conductor industry and its future. He also revealed about his company’s potential and works.

Prof. Fazal Khalid also liked this innovative idea and shared his valuable views on this industry that has captured the world and now was set to grow even in Pakistan.

In Q&A session, students asked the questions and the panel answered them. The event winded up with souvenirs’ distribution.
