On the 4th of August 2025, KICS UET Lahore had the honor of hosting Maj. General (R) Dr. Ghulam Qamar, Director General of DGRE, who visited the institute in connection with the ongoing government-funded project aimed at “Skilling the Youth of Madrassas.” This initiative, supported by the Government of Pakistan through NAVTTC, currently facilitates the education and skills development of 19 madrassa students enrolled at KICS UET Lahore.
The visit commenced with a warm and respectful reception of Maj. General (R) Dr. Ghulam Qamar by the Senior Manager Trainings Mr. Kashif Bashir, Ms. Nida, Ms Akfa, highlighting the strong collaboration between the institute and government bodies. The guest was welcomed with a bouquet of flowers as a token of respect and appreciation. The atmosphere reflected a spirit of mutual commitment toward empowering youth through education and skills training.
Maj. General (R) Dr. Ghulam Qamar proceeded to observe an ongoing class where the madrassa students are receiving technical training. Demonstrating great interest and support, he sat at the back of the classroom and attentively monitored the teaching session. This hands-on observation enabled him to appreciate firsthand the quality of education and the dedication of both instructors and students involved in the program.
During the visit, the students took the opportunity to present their work and progress made throughout the course. Their presentations underscored the practical skills they have acquired, which complement their traditional religious education. Moreover, the students expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to learn new skills and requested that NAVTTC consider distributing laptops to further support their studies. This suggestion reflects the students’ eagerness to embrace technology and enhance their learning experience.
Maj. General (R) Dr. Ghulam Qamar addressed the students directly, emphasizing the vision behind this program. He articulated the importance of equipping madrassa students with additional vocational skills alongside their religious education. This dual approach aims to open pathways for sustainable income generation and career development, ensuring these young individuals can contribute meaningfully to society. He further mentioned that the government is planning to expand similar initiatives in the future to benefit a broader segment of youth from diverse backgrounds.
In recognition of Maj. General (R) Dr. Ghulam Qamar’s valuable contribution and leadership in promoting skills development among madrassa youth, Prof. Dr. Waqar Mahmood, Director of KICS, presented him with a token of appreciation. The plaque symbolized gratitude for his commitment and dedication to the cause of youth empowerment through education.
The visit concluded on a positive note, reaffirming the collaborative spirit between DGRE, NAVTTC, and KICS UET Lahore. It also served as a motivational milestone for all stakeholders involved, inspiring continued efforts toward inclusive education and skill-building for underprivileged youth.
Overall, the event marked a significant step forward in bridging the gap between traditional madrassa education and modern technical skills, with the shared goal of creating new opportunities and brighter futures for the youth of Pakistan.
